Gerard Sterin has been a director of photography since 1982, following cinematographic studies at the Belgian Film Institute (INSAS) in Brussels.
He has worked as the assistant to Jean-François Robin and Bernard Zitzerman on more than thirty feature films directed by Rene Feret, Alain Cavalier, Alain Tanner, Coline Serreau, Ariana Mnouchkine, François Leterrier, and Patrice Leconte. He has also worked as operator on six feature films lit by Denis Lenoir, François Catonne and Eduardo Serra.
As director of photography, he has collaborated with numerous directors, including Jacques Audiard, Luc Besson, Etienne Chatilliez, Nicole Garcia, Jean-Paul Goude, and Gerard Krawczyk...
Gerard Sterin's commercials have won many awards in international festivals, notably the Cannes Grand Prix for "The Lion" made for Perrier and directed by Jean-Paul Goude.
His aerial shots taken for Ecco's commercial "The Patrol" won him the Minerve Award for best photography.
The feature "See How they Fall" directed by Jacques Audiard was awarded a French Cesar as well as the Georges Sadoul Award.
